What do you blog about?

I read and comment on blogs much more than I post on my own. I follow some because they post jokes or cartoons, other because of the pictures they post, and others because I am interested in what they have to say.

One blogger I follow recently lamented about the losing followers. This is certainly not the first time I've seen type of post, and probably not the last. These posts usually end with questions about what kinds of posts others want to see in order to get more followers, more responses.

I can understand that sentiment. I am very thankful for the few followers I have, and for everyone who takes the time to comment on my posts.

I always post the same kind of response to those lamenting the lack of followers. Your blog should be about what you want, not what someone else wants. People who are interested in what you post will follow. Trying to blog about what you think others want to see only leads to frustration.

Some blogs are like therapy sessions. The blogger will post about things that are troubling them. Us amature therapist readers will respond with all sorts of advice, words of encouragement, etc.

Other blogs are like soap operas. These types of bloggers post about events that take place in their every day lives. These can get you hooked and have you eagerly awaiting the next "episode".

There are all sorts of blogs, blog about what you want.

Now that I think about it, many of my posts there were intended to be general observations seem to be more like an advice column. I guess it's time for me to get off my soapbox.

    Excellent write!

There are some great blogs here, by some good writers. Blogging should never be about followers, but more so about those who comment and correspond with on a regular basis. That's blogging, in my opinion.

Having 1 follower or 100, it doesn't matter. What matters most, is the relationship with your readers.

I see in my response I neglected to say thanks. So a Thank you to you too.

I tend to blog about whatever is on my mind at the time....whether it be my daily life, something that is bothering me or a question that has popped into my mind....sometimes I post jokes because I enjoy doing the images that go with them. I never try to guess what my readers want to read....but I do take into account the regulars that visit my blog and I know that they wouldn't want to see anything too graphic.

Your blog is very well done. I appreciate the effort you put in to constructing your posts not just the thoughtful written content, but also with all of the pictures, formatting, etc.

I agree about there being great blogs and good writers. I really appreciate the time and effort some bloggers put in to developing their posts. Not only the written ones, but the ones that are primarily pics as well. It can be more effort to stage a good pic than it is to write well crafted text.
