Only a number?

Ok, so there's this girl. She's kinda hot...... aaaaand she's kinda young. Not that young admittedly, but still a good bit younger than me. We get on pretty well when we chat, but the age thing is putting me off doing anything about things.....a lot.

I do have pretty flexible upper and lower limits on the women who I'm attracted to, but I'd hate to blow a promising looking friendship because I'd really like it to develop into somthing more, but realistically I think there's only one of the pair of us thinking along those lines.....and it isn't her.

I do say "age is just a number" but I obviously don't really think like that. I don't want to be the "dirty old man". Or maybe I'm just making excuses to avoid being rejected.....

Anyway, just looking for opinions on what is the magic number where it goes from being "sweet" to "gross!". How much of an age difference is too much, or should it not matter, as long as there is a "spark" or some form of attraction?
