If you do a search on Wikipedia with the keywords "penis size" you'll find a variety of details, including information on how to accurately measure a penis. Some people say you shouldn't trust what you read on Wikipedia, but quite often you'll find good, well documented information there, with a pretty solid bibliography. I wouldn't use it as a reference in a professional paper, but I go there often for quick info on topics you won't find in a more traditional encyclopedia.
In the interest of science I measured the length and circumference of my penis, both soft and hard, at a normal (not too cool) room temperature. FYI ladies, Jerry Seinfeld was telling the truth when he said "It shrinks like a frightened turtle" if the owner is cold or nervous.
MY SOFT PENIS: length = 4.5 inches; circumference = 4.0 inches.
MY HARD PENIS: length = 7.0 inches; circumference = 5.0 inches.
Thus, my erect cock is a little longer than average but with a circumference that is about average. All I can say is that my penis works, and that I know how to use it to pleasure a woman, and that it feels fantastic whenever I get the chance to slip and slide in a hot, wet pussy.
I agree with preceding comments that knowing HOW TO USE IT is MORE IMPORTANT than HOW BIG IT IS. Nevertheless, several survey studies indicate that when size of a partner's penis is important to a woman, the thickness is more important than the length because a thicker cock is apparently more satisfying during intercourse.
